Digital TV

Digital Television or Digital TV will change the way we watch TV. The main difference between Digital and Analog Tv (the one we have today) is that the first uses digital signals made of data bits with 0's and 1's on its transmissions. This kind of transmissions allow a much larger quantity of information to be broadcasted and received than currently available technology. Higher definition image and better quality sound will be possible in the near future. Other singular characteristic of Digital TV is interactivity. It will allow you to interact with music and news shows.
You will be able to use your current TV set to receive DTV. A converter can be used to receive its signals and transform them into analog. But It won't be able to display the full image quality.

What is Web Tv?

In April 1998, I was at NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Convention in Las Vegas when I first heard the term WEBTV.
At Microsoft booth I saw a Tv set (like the one you used to have in '98) connected to a box (THE WEBTV) showing a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Image was low resolution but sound was pretty good. Back then, a 56kbps modem was the best you could expect from an internet connection.
It was the first attempt to provide Tv using the Internet.
In fact, web TV is an adapted television set designed to allow internet connection. It's a set-top box (like a cable decoder) which connects to a standard TV for you to receive images and sound. It's configuration includes a web browser, cord or wireless (bluetooth or infra-red) keyboard and a fast connection to the Internet, using a modem, ADSL, cable or PLC).
Web-TV is a low-cost alternative to cable tv as it uses a cheap connection to the Internet.
Finally, this term is also used to define TV broadcastings over the web, usually by streaming.

Welcome and enjoy our channels. We hope you have lots of fun and come back soon.

Glossary

Streaming media

Streaming is the delivery of media, such as video and audio, over a network in real time. A computer (server) sends the media to another computer (client), which plays the media as it is delivered. You can stream media at various rates, from modem to broadband.

Broadcast

A Broadcast is a program (video/audio) transmitted for public reception by anyone equiped with a proper receiver to decode the signal. An Internet channel may distribute text, video or audio world-wide. Radio engineers from the midwestern United States were the first to use this term.

Satellite TV

TV broadcasts delivered via a satellite that is in geostationary orbit. This satellite can maintain its position above a certain place without changing its position. Signals are sent up to the satellite from an station on Earth, then relayed back down again to be received by a dish. Satellites can deliver both analog and digital services.

Webcast

Programs and shows delivered over the Internet. Several sites provide webcasting for listening to a wide variety of music and live concerts over the Internet.
You will find some of them on our listings.
